This province takes in the Costa Blanca and Costa del Azahar, with over 500 kilometres of spectacular coastline. Its wonderful climate and beautiful beaches make it one of the major tourist destinations, and offers an experience of typical Mediterranean Spain. The capital city, Valencia, is fascinating with its Gothic monuments, busy beaches and hectic nightlife. It is well known for its wild Las Fallas spring festival, and is the location where "El Cid", Spain's national hero fought against the Moors. Alicante is the second largest city, whilst Torrevieja and Benidorm are both important tourist centres. Oranges and rice are major products here, and both the Paella Valenciana and the Turron or nougat are local specialities.
