This region is formed by an archipelago of seven islands of volcanic origin in the Atlantic Ocean, off the northwestern coast of Africa. They are Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Palma, El Hierro, La Gomera, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. Surprisingly, the landscape of each is radically different to the others. The wonderful subtropical climate with constant temperatures throughout the year are a huge tourist attraction, together with fine beaches, volcanic landscapes, and four national parks where several native species are preserved. The character of the population is also said to be influenced by this fine climate as Canarians are viewed as always being friendly and in a good mood. The cuisine of the Canary Islands combines traditional Spanish recipes with African and Latin American influences. There is an incredible variety of recipes, with excellent fish, fruits and vegetables.
